We got into Puerto Igazu at about noon on Wednesday and caught a 12:40 bus to the falls. I could spend ages describing how unbelieveable they were, but you probably wouldn't believe me....... (that's stupid). Look at the photos instead. We spent most of the afternoon there, got a bus back to Puerto Igazu, grabbed our bags and headed over to Brazil. My Finnish (EU) passport paid off well at the crossing, no $160 visa for me!! Border control actually consisted of the bus driver asking anyone if they needed their passports stamped, we would have missed it if we weren't paying attention. We got the bus at 9pm and got into Curitiba at about 7am in the morning. Clare (a friend from when I worked at Bear Valley Ski Resort in the US) picked us ... read more

As we are now about to leave Sao Paulo for the Bolivian rainforest we thought we should try and get this online journal up and running !! Sao Paulo has been a wonderful place to see , before coming here - We had read reports of a ugly, sprawling metropolis smeared with graffiti and crime. However this only represents one part of this vast city. We have found it to be alive with noise and colour, the people too be friendly and welcoming and it has one of the best skylines either of us has ever seen !! We have had a great time here , whether its been going to the zoo (tacky I know but fun all the same!) , chilling in one of the copious amounts of cafes , seeing wild monkeys in ... read more

As well as spending most of our time in Sao Paulo we have also visited Ilha Bela. It really is a wonderful island and we enjoyed 3 weekends at the Conde de Mar pousada just chilling , swimming , eating and drinking. The island has sandy beaches, atlantic rainforest and impressive mountains. It was great place to relax and take it real easy !! I think the finishing touch was having birthday bbq for Dan in the middle of a tropical rainstorm - cooked by Serge (the owner of the b&b) who deservedly earnt the title of BBQ king after cooking the best bbq ever in less than ideal conditions !! We learnt two valuable lessons in Ilha Bela , 0ne - always wear insect repellant wherever you are going , whatever you are doing , ... read more

Before heading out on the Ina Trail, we spent 3 days relaxing in Cusco and for my part trying to get over a stomach cramping case of travellers diahrea. A quick trip to the doctor, a stool test, and a packet of Ciproxin later we were ready for 4 days of pain on the Inca Trail. Friday 26th we started at 6am, pretty easy for a first day. Saturday involved going almost straight up a 1200m mountain then 700m back down. Luckily it was all over by lunch time and most of us slept for the rest of the day. Sunday was more up and down, 16km in the end, but we finished up camping in a somewhat civilised area, complete with cold beer, hot coffee and flushing toilets!!! Monday was the last day, a 4am ... read more

And so, to Brazil.. the fifth biggest country on Earth. Due to the constaints of time, we were only briefly heading across the South East of the country... but it at least gave us a flavour for it.. Our first stop, from Argentina, was the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls. Equally spectacular to the Argy side, but still worth a visit to get a different perspective on this incredible place.. We then had a quick, ie 2 minute detour into Paraguay.. this was because we hadnt stopped to get a Brazilian entry stamp on our way in from Argentina. The Paraguayan border is a real zoo... hoards of people heading in and out with bootlegged booze, cigarettes, and probably a lot of cocaine that has come in from Bolivia.. As we got our stamps for ... read more

"Sao Salvador, Bahia de Sao Salvador A terra do branco mulato A terra do preto doutor..." Magica terra do Senhor do Bonfim! A chegada dos africanos ... read more

Não so' me senti mais segura, como so' vi sorrisos.

Greetings to one and all. I won´t write much but I will post some more piccies. Iguassu from the Argy side was incredible again. We started with a 4x4 drive through the jungle then went on the jet boat. I enjoyed that sooo much - riding the rapids the wrong way at speed was fun. And then the boat pulled up right under the spray from the falls and we got a tad wet. We also went for a boat tour of the wetlands at the top of the falls and saw a caimen. From Iguassu we spent a couple of days driving to Bonito where today we went snorkelling in a crystal clear river teaming with fish. Ness was in her element (I wasn´t really surprised when she grew flippers). Enjoy the photos. Viv & ... read more

Greetings from Argentina! We{ve been on the road for just over a week now and we{re having so much fun. First stop was Rio - fantastic city. We stayed in the Flamengo district pretty central. Did all the usual bits over 3 days - big Jesus, cable car up Sugarloaf mountain to watch the sunset, sunbathed on the Copocabana and visited the botanical gardens. We joined up with our tour group for the next 7 weeks on Saturday and headed for Paraty - a small old slave town just south of Sao Paulo. Got some camping practise in and went on a boat trip round to some deserted tropical beaches (I won't mention the torrential rain in the afternoon). We left Paraty on Monday and spent the next 3 days driving across Brazil to reach the ... read more

Rio to Buenos Aires - One Month I hired an apartment with two friends from England in Rio and after they left I spent one more night to go to a Fat Boy Slim beach party and then i traveled to Ilha grande for more beach scenery and some abuse of caipirinias Sao Paulo was next and was very pleasant, with the usual mix of cool and historic buildings and it was very much like an ant farm with its large number of tower blocks. I stayed with a friend for a week who was nice enough to welcome me and show me round ... obrigado Thatiana Victorelli. Her sister took me to one of the football stadiums and I was surprised to see two telephones next to the goals and even more fluffing surprised when ... read more
