Thanks to Lufthansa's low quality transport I lost 3 days and I had to make miles in a hurry so of to Curitiba, rush hour in Brazil is a bit hectic and they start early, traffic going out of Florianopolis was rather mad but the queues going in were mayhem.
For some reason or other I spent the day and night in Curitiba, not really going at top speed so the next day of to Rio.
Rio is 840 km from Curitiba and I normally don't ride that far in one day, after a gruelling ride on a very pretty road going in and through some mountain ranges and shitload of toll booths and some heavy showers later I got into Rio and sevenish or so.
Copacabana would be a nice place to stay, the thing about Copa is that everyone wants to stay there so the hotels I checked out were full.
And the the heavens opened, wide open, cats and dogs not a chance, it was more like hippos and whales.
As I was already wet i thought that I could not get any wetter, I was wrong.
Several streets were flooded with
up to half a meter of water, I kid you not, people went crazy as they could not drive where they wanted police closing the worst streets.
I drove along with a nice bow wave trying to find my hotel, cars were passing me and absolutely drenching me, garbage was floating along the streets.
Well my intended place of lodging's garage was flooded and the neighbouring place would not have and I didn't want to leave the bike on the streets of Rio unattended overnight so I found another non flooded place,I was soaked to the bones, the suspenders of my riding trouser are elastic and with the weight of the water the crotch was down by my knees..
I was so tired and so wet that I did not take any pics of the mayhem.
Next day to me for a Metro ride first to Ipanema and then to Copacabana, the Sugar loaf mountain was partially covered with clouds, so my sightseeing was walking and having some brews at both beaches.
I was sitting at a place drinking my beer reading my book when the ugliest fattest prostitute in all of Rio offered me
her services, offer ignored.
Sunday night hotels are cheaper than saturday night hotels so I upgraded to a nicer one and tried to dry out my stuff as well as I could.
Next morning after a good breakfast, none of the normal South American shit with milked out coffee and a bun, no the Brazilians eat well in the morning, I went up to Vitoria.
Vitoria is a nice concrete resort with tower blocks blocking out the sun from the beach in the early afternoon.
Big hotel no guests= low prices, I got a very nice room for a reasonable amount of money, 8th floor with an ocean view.
A bit of a walkabout, some beers, of course, a nice pizza for dinner and as early as I could the next morning I set forth with all speed, north.
The road is BR 101 going from the south up to the very north.
It's a good road and the landscape is nice, it goes up and down and quite a few curves as well, none of the monotony of Patagonia and it's warm and nice.
The wogs are not the best drivers
around, but too bad, they tend to drive rather slowly and like to hug the left lane.
With a metronome's regularity there a lorries chugging up hill at 5 km/h, double yellow lines and they do like their sleeping policemen, aka speed bumps.
So traffic slows down with long lines of cars and more lorries, then it's nice to have a 100+ hp and just down change and blow past.
I've stopped caring about double yellow lines as do most bikes.
Enouh was enough so I left the 101 and went down to the sea for the night some 400 + km north of Vitoria, the only guest so that was the cheapest night so far.
A very good lunch and dinner saw me in bed at 10 o'clock, driving reasonably fast at a 100%!c(MISSING)oncentration is tiring.
My motor bike stayed in the lobby and the hotel's owner had a way with shells placed at different heights indicating the size of his guest.
I've got a shell with my name on it and I think it will be a long time before anybody beats me.
