As our last day in Rio de Janeiro, Andrew and I had been hoping to go downtown to see the Beehive and National Library. Unfortunately, we didn't realize it was a holiday (Independence Day) and that there would be all kinds of protests going on downtown. So instead of doing that as planned, we packed up and stored our bags before heading out with the girls around Copacabana and over to Section 9 in Ipanema (the cool part of the beach). It as perfect to walk outside and see all the locals enjoying the weather, playing sports on the beach like volleyball and footvolley, and purchasing fun souvenirs from vendors. I got a really neat magnet for me and a colorful shawl for Lauren as a thank you. The boys got coconuts from the beach vendors to drink on our walk.
I left the group that afternoon to head back to the hotel to get to the airport. I spent some time to pick up some juice and lunch before head over to the beach. I sat and watched a volleyball match before collecting my bags and heading to the airport. Unfortunately, when I got to the airport I couldn't check in until shortly before my flight. I grabbed a milkshake and sat to write in my journal and read. Eventually it came time for me to check in, so I headed up to get through security (who took my dulce de leche that I forgot was in my bag) and got onto the plane.
The first flight to Sao Paulo I got a nice sandwich of cheese and tomato. The flight was short and uneventful, but I did manage to get to watch the entire Croods movie. I walked off my flight into line for a water and bread before walking straight onto my flight home.
Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get a window seat on this flight so was stuck in a middle aisle seat. I enjoyed a movie and had a little of the dinner they provided (it wasn't very good) before attempting to go to sleep. I fell asleep to the Princess Bride but didn't last long. I had troubles without a window to lean against and I wasn't feel so great. About an hour before we landed they brought us breakfast. I wanted to let my stomach settle a little so didn't touch it at first. The stewardess to pick up our trash told me to wake up and eat. I tried to eat my croissant and drink some Sprite thinking it would help my feeling sick - instead it caused me to throw up. How embarrassing! Then another stewardess walked by and asked what it was. When I told her she said I had to bring it to bathroom and walked away. I had breakfast on my tray table, was wrapped up in a blanket, and felt awful so the last thing I was doing was getting up. Finally someone came and took it away from me.
At the airport, I stopped in the bathroom to collect myself and freshen up before going through customs. I got through in a hurry and went to wait for Lauren outside. Luckily she found me despite no phone and we headed home. I got sick on the ride there but had taken a barf bag from the plane with me. She set me up with some water and bags for my ride home and I was off again. I only had to pull over once on the hour and half ride home, but couldn't wait to make it to my bed. Too bad I had a final that I had to finish by midnight. Doesn't look like work is a possibility for Monday.
