Extremely happy that I got a Rio on my last roster. My first ever flight as cabin crew was to here so it seemed only right to have one for me to finish with. And this time it was my dad and brother, Louis's, turn to join me. Louis had just celebrated his birthday the day before so nice little gift for him. They successfully survived the standby and got seats; with me getting to serve them on board which was great. The first night we had a chill one so we were fresh for sightseeing the next day. Had our breakfast then headed out into the city. We took the public bus again to Copacabana, then from here went round to Sugarloaf Mountain. Was quite a cloudy day but still managed to see everything which was brilliant. And afterwards we went up to Christ De Redeemer. Even though this was my third time to these famous sites, it still is absolutely amazing. The views from both of Rio are so breathtaking. From Christ we could the Maracana Football Stadium from the World Cup this year which the two boys were loving. We had planned to go to a football match
there that evening so didn't go to see it during the day. We got a bite to eat at Copacabana at lovely little beach bar. There were some local guys singing and playing away on their instruments which was fun. The bus back to Barra Beach where we were staying took over two hours! The traffic was was hectic, quite a few accidents on the road. And the bus driver didn't stop letting people on even though it was absolutely jam packed. All part of the experience! We had been told by concierge that morning that the football match we wanted to see at The Maracana was on at 10pm, pick up would be at 8pm and it had to be booked by 6pm. So we got back to hotel about 5.45pm, just in time to book it. However, we were unfortunately told by a new person on the desk that game was actually at 7.30pm and pick up was at 5.30pm, meaning that we missed it. We were gutted but then to be honest with the traffic situation it was probably a blessing in disguise. Instead we quickly popped on our beach gear and went over to the beach
for an hour or so. My dad and Louis were on the bodyboards, and I just sat chilling watching the sunset. Love this place so much. Contemplating not leaving here!
After the beach, we got ready and came down for a drink at the bar. My dad and I were on the caprihana's - which were a pit posher than my usual from the beach shack. I then took them to a traditional Brazilian meat restaurant. Just outside the restaurant on our way in we saw a few policemen surrounding a guy and taking a gun from him. No worries then!! We still went in and glad for it as dinner was so good! There is a salad bar where you just help yourself to as much as you like, and then the waiters will come round with various meats and you can try and eat as much as you like. I don't usually eat much meat these days but was loving this. As were dad and Louis. At one point we accidentally ate chicken hearts which I was a bit upset with but otherwise lovely meal and a fun cultural experience.
The next day was glorious sunshine
which meant we spent all day at the beach. Louis was loving it and in the sea for hours. So glad he got to come here as it really is a once in a lifetime experience, and my for my dad too even though him and my stepmum were here with me in February. After a few hours we took a stroll along the promenade, stopping at a beach hut for a cheeseburger which was only about £2 and possibly one of the best burgers I have ever had. I also got my favourite Acai de Copo - this drink and the caprihana's are definitely what I will miss the most from here. So good! We continued on walking again along the beach and there seemed to be a windsurfing competition on with lots of (very fit and gorgeous) men out in the water. Must be such a difficult sport but they make it look effortless. We eventually got to the Havaianas shop. After coming here numerous times over the past three years I have never bought a pair so now was the time. Another souvenir for myself, collecting them from my last trips. Got a taxi back to hotel
and had a nap before leaving later that night to fly home.
I really will miss this place the most out of all my trips. It has held so many great memories for me over the past few years. It just is such a brilliant, fun place. And out of everywhere I have been to this is the place that I most definitely would want to come back to one day. I'm leaving flying to do TEFL (teaching a English as a foreign language) course in Barcelona and sometime afterwards, perhaps next winter) I would perhaps look at coming here to teach as I saw a few English Schools. A truly amazing place and really hope I'm back again.
