Yeah, I know. Two blogs in a row with cheesy titles. I guess I am on a roll here.
Since I had seen the major sights that I wanted to see, I decided to take a 2 hour cruise around Guanabara Bay. There is something relaxing about a short cruise and quite honestly I was looking forward to just sitting for a while. I put on some walking miles over the past two days. Somehow I didn't plan my time well this morning, so skipped breakfast and coffee and high tailed it to the Metro station. It was an easy trip to the station, but out of the station I ran into what happens so often here. No signs. The flyer said to take the footbridge to the marina. That was all well and good, but there was no marina. Time was running out, so I picked a direction and ended up finding some paths over a busy road. I did find the marina, but there were no signs for the boat. I walked all the way down the path to the right, but the end was gated off. The path to the left was no better. I thought I
saw the boat below me and came this close to jumping down from the path. Luckily I didn't, because the proper way in was to walk on the dirt around a parking lot and through some security gates. I know, it was exhausting just to think about it. I was the last one on the boat, but made it.
The cruise was very nice. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water. I took several pictures, but for the most part today was about taking it easy and enjoying myself. I had a really good conversation with a woman from Canada. We chatted about places we had been, or wanted to go. It is always an unexpected pleasure to run into someone who also has the passion for travel.
After the cruise, I took the Metro to try and find the Centro district. Honestly, I gave up.
I was hot, tired and just not that into walking around downtown Rio, so I took the Metro up to Ipanema. It was another beautiful beach, but way more crowded than Copacabana. I walked around for a bit, and then came back to the hotel to do nothing
for a while. Aside from the few major tourist places, there wasn't much here that I found interesting. Some cities, like Barcelona, Prague or Budapest are great for wandering aimlessly down streets, but I didn't find that to be true here.
Dinner was at a restaurant on the Avenue Atlantic again. The green curry chicken soup was great, but the poor roasted chicken was so dry that I wondered if it had been cooked in a food dehydrator. My treat for after dinner was to walk along the beach under a full moon, listening to the waves. It was a great way to end my stay here in Rio. Tomorrow will be a day of travel, so I won't be online much. Hope you are enjoying this trip so far; I know I am!
