spent our last day in Rio with Clara from our hostel, went to Centro and got a tram up to Santa Teresa, then got a couple of buses over to Corcovado and went up the mountain to Cristo Redentor. Even higher than Sugar loaf and beautiful views. Headed back to the hostel for a quick nap then headed out with Clara, Callum, Bram and Sarah (I think!) from our hostel for a pay by the 100g dinner. Liz almost ate tongue but managed to realise what it was before eating! We then headed to Lapa street party, had a few vodkas on the beach and some rather strong Caiprinhas (Cachaca spirit, sugar and lime juice). Met up with a few more from our hostel there, chatted to a few locals, and some other travellers, some from leeds uni.

On saturday we checked out of the hostel and got on the bus to Paraty. 4 hours on a really rather nice coach! Arrived to a very tranquil town compared to Rio, checked into our hostel and chilled on the beach - a mere 10m walk from our room. Had a great BBQ and all you can drink Caiprinahs and chatted to an Australian couple and Joe, a fellow Brummy.

have enjoyed spending today on the beach ad having a little look around the town, plus some rather expensive but yummy icecreams. we're making up for that by attempting to cook for ourselves tonight! intending to kayak tomorrow all being well with the weather. have booked an extra night here as it is so lovely, very idyllic, so we are here until wednesday. not quite figured out how the comments on the blog work quite yet so forgive us if you have asked questions and we arent replying! xxxx

Green with envy!
wow! It sounds fantastic and just slightly better than the day I've had working in Liverpool - lashing with rain and bitterly cold! Paraty sounded idyllic when I looked it up on Lonely Planet so I'm not surprised you've decided to stay on here. Seems like you're meeting some interesting fellow travellers too. it would be good to see some photos - mum wonders if you know how to add them to the blog? It's great to read what you're doing so keep up the blog comments. Hope your meal went well at the hostel and that you have another great day tomorrow. Where are you moving on to next? Went out for meal tonight with folks from work and Sheilagh (my old boss) said that her daughter did the same as you and had a fantastic experience - so keep on enjoying it! xx

hi! yes it is, we went kayaking today for about 5 hours, not as sunny as yesterday which was a bit of a shame, but still good none the less. meal went well, we even cooked again today. everyone is so friendly! not too sure about uploading photos yet, the internet connection is pretty slow, but what i may do is upload them to facebook then ask joe to email them to you or something. hope the work is going well! off to sao paulo on weds, hopefully staying with alanĀ“s family there for a couple of nights, then down to foz de iguacu. xxx
