I was sad to leave Isla Grande but I had to make my way to Sao Paulo to get my flight back home, but before that happened I had a brief stop in Paraty. To get to Paraty I got a local bus to the bus station and wandered down the main street to the ocean which is where the Misti Chill hostel was located. I would recommend this hostel, it had a good vibe about it and the manager there was from new Zealand so we entertained ourselves with Flight of the Concords anecdotes.
Unfortunately the respite on Isla Grande the rain had come back. Paraty is a sleepy old colonial town and I spent the day wandering round the cobbled streets, apart from that the main things to do are a number of day trips. Because of the weather the trips to the beaches were out so I decide to bale early and spent just one day (2 nights) in Paraty which enables to spend a night in Sao Paulo.
On my last night in paraty I got chatting to a traveller who explained to me how she had her daypack stolen in Salvador. A guy came
up to her in the street and basically ripped her daypack off her and she ended up fighting with him before he ran off to the favelas. She was a female police office in Amsterdam so having to put up with drunken Brits all year I expect she could handle herself. During my trip she was one of many travellers I had me who had their bag stolen so this is certainly something every traveller should be wary of. One tip which I would certainly recommend is to take a pen drive to back up your photos as every person who had their bag stolen had lost all their pictures!!
I got another local bus from Paraty to Sao Paulo and the journey was incredible the road hugged the coast most of the way and it travelled through temperate Atlantic rainforest. The road was surrounded by forest swathed in mist and it was great just to chill out and listen to some tunes and watch the world go by.
The landscape changed for the worse though as the bus approached Sao Paulo. Once the bus reached the environs of Sao Paulo it took a further hour to get
to the bus station which was on the outskirts and thena another 30 mins to get on the metro to arrive in Ana Rosa. Sao Paulo is the largest city in South America and the 3 most populous city in the world with over 10 million inhabitants but surprisingly for such a large city there isn’t much to see. SP is famous for its nightlife rather than anything else. I stayed at the Okupe Hostel in the district of Ana Rosa which was pleasant enough only 5 mins from the metro. I spent the rest of the day walking from Ana Rosa to Avenida Paulista which is the main street of SP, which I was there I went round the most famous museum in SP MASP the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo.
The next day had a wander round Ibirapuero park before hitching a ride with a couple of Aussies to the airport where I bumped into (for the third time) Marine from Israel - lucky me!! - It’s a small world.
