ola, warm greetings from brazil its actually cooled down here today a little bit, its a nice reprieve from the scorching heat last week. It probably is only in the low 20´s today and the humidity has dropped to 50 %. We had an amazing weekend, the break at Torres was just awesome. The rain held off till saturday nite and we managed to do some shopping and spend time at the beach as well. Turns out that Alex is a pretty good boogy boarder. He spent about 3 hours playing in the ocean with some of the other team members that also bought boards while out shopping. Sunday nite was church, and it was just incredible. 25 people had made decisions for the Lord and were baptized. It was so amazing to see so many ... read more

good morning, afternoon or evening, whichever the case may be things here are going really well. its SMOKING HOT.... and the humidity is incredibly high. I was mentioning to another team member this morning that God is likely sick of my prayers everymorning.... please send a breeze, please protect me from cockroaches.... she assured me that he isnt. the work at the new house is moving along well, they are doing the best they can in this heat. at lunch time we walk to a restarant about a kilometer away or so, its not too far, but its a huge hill and it really drains the men that have been working so hard in the morning. herman said this morning though, he wants to be use the mission car and haul 4 at a time ... read more

Sunday in brazil. Church here is at nite so today we spent some time at the campus then we headed out to some of the outlying areas to distrubute some clothing that had been brought down. We headed out on the bus down to some of the poor areas of town. The group split up into 3 and we headed out. Each group had a translater which was nice. What an incredible eye opener... we were actually in the areas of town that many of the kids used to live. The conditions were as you can imagine deplorable. The homes were one room with no bathroom or bedrooms. The even harder to imagine thing is that this wasnt even close to the poorest part of the city. We walked and walked, and for the first time ... read more

its hard to believe its already saturday nite. this week went by incredibly fast. we´ve been working long days but the productivity has been really great. the team is just so ready to get in there and get busy. all the tile work was done before we got here and after just 2 days the guys have managed to get almost the entire house grouted. its working alot better this time since alex brought along a trowel*spelling* and sponges making it so much easier than the first year, when he was given half a flip flop to do all the grouting. I´ve been busy already with loads and loads of laundry, the lethbridge team knew that there was access to laundry facilities so they decided to bring only a carry on for personal items. that way ... read more

Ola from Brazil Its taken a while to get access to the computer and its not looking that promising for our internet connection. We will try as often as possible to update this and send the odd email. Our trip was eventful, nothing like the previous years but still had some tense moments. Each flight was late leaving but we managed to make up some time in the air. We arrived in Sau Paulo with only about 40 minutes till our next flight, and we still had to clear customs and get our luggage to transfer to the domestic flight. We hurried to the check in counter about 20 minutes after boarding started, but the typical brazilian way was apparent right away when they werent concerned at how late we were. We then found out that ... read more

Hey everyone welcome to this crazy world of blogging! Depending on how the dial up connection is at the orphange will depend on how often updates will be added. Please check often anyway. We will also send some emails, so dont worry, if you are blogging challenged like myself; you will still get updates. I wanted to post a little history of Chain of Love for those of you that dont know the whole story of the orphange. It was started by a missionary couple that had gone to Brazil to as church planters. There are hundreds of thousands of street kids in Brazil and the missionaries were surrounded by lots of them. When one of the kids they called 'Rusty' was murdered they felt that God was asking them to do something about this situation. ... read more

This weekend we went to see the national park Aparados da Serra which is situated in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. According to a travel agency’s employee the park is at most 4 hours by bus from Florianopolis and the trip works as the following: get a bus from Florianopolis to Ararangua which takes at most 3 hours and then get a local bus to the park, which is only one more hour away. Sounds good for a weekend trip! We got our baggage ready (shorts, t-shirts and other summer clothes) and caught the bus at the Florianopolis main station. After two hours we were still on the bus to Ararangua. After 3 hours we were still on the bus to Ararangua. The only excitement on the bus: a video film and I destroyed ... read more

we had two days of driving after porto alegre on the way to Cataratas do Iguaçu, crazy big waterfalls in the state of parana close to Tres Fronteiras, where the borders of argentina, paraguay and brazil meet. the first night we stopped in Lajeado, rio grande do sul. we got there late and woke up to find a bustling, clean little city. since its in the middle of nowhere, we hadnt expected much. we spent a couple of hours walking around running errands and saw no less than about 7 people sweeping. two were city employees hard at work on the bike path, and the rest were tending to their houses or storefronts. there was a pedestrian friendly downtown with lots of nice shops, a library and even a health food store. it is was interesting.... ... read more
