So this Thursday Sara, Fany and I packed up and headed to Porto Alegre. It was slightly amazing. First we went to Pati's apartment to unload our stuff, and then we went to the PUC's (a really good university in Porto Alegre where Sara's dad went) museum of Science and Technology and theeeeeeeeen we took a tour of the city and then we went out to eat and then we went shopping and then we ordered Pizza from Pizza Hut (boo, we both ate it cheeselesss because the cheese tasted like regurgitated babies, in sara's words) and then at one thirty in the morning we picked up Paulo from the airport and drove to Santa Cruz do Sul. The museum was really cool. Everything was interactive and there was A LOT to do. There was ... read more

It is cold. Extremely cold. We have colds. All of our school friends have colds. People are carrying their dogs around in blankets so they don't freeze to death. We have risked burning the house down by putting our blankets on a space heater because we are so cold. It is a constant state of mind. Once the cold draws you in you can't escape. It is like living in a dream...only your dream is a nightmare. A cold, cold nightmare from which you will never escape. A nightmare from which wearing two pairs of socks will not save you. A nightmare in which three comfortors and countless cups of coffee are not enough. A nightmare where it is so cold that even though the window is wide open and causing you to freeze to ... read more

Since we last updated the blog, we have been pretty busy. We started school and have been having some intense Portuguese lessons (yet I still don't know how to properly spell Portuguese...le sigh). School is pretty cool. The first day was terrible because we had to wake up at 5 am US time and were forced to go to a math class with a really awkward group. Our first class was fun but too early, so we ditched them and found a better class (don't worry, we didn't really ditch, we just decided that we liked the other guys better). The other class is an AP English class with high school seniors. A lot of them have traveled to countries in North America for exchange programs and can speak extremely well. We made a lot ... read more

Yesterday we woke up pretty late and went to a brunch for lunch (rhyme!). They had pretty good bread pudding. After we came home we walked to The Gruta (the grotto) which is the prettiest place in existence. We have a few photos but you really have to see it in person...to bad you didn´t, haha suckers! We watched The Queen and Forty Year Old Virgin (what? so innapropriate!) and both were really good. Then we went to sleep. Today we got our various schedules after waking up in time for breakfast for the first time. We are taking Portguese classes as well as gym classes. We went to one gym class today (combat). It was pretty intense. Tomorrow we´re going to start all the classes and we´ll register at Maua (Moo-ah, muah) and maybe ... read more

After a yearlong delay at Ohare we finally got on the 11 hour flight to Sao Paulo. It was basically impossible to sleep but don´t worry mom, at some point we did...Disney Channel pretty much saved our lives. I also watched some of The Lives Of Others and Sara watched Zodiac. When we got to Tam airlines we (good news) got into the VIP section after an hour of waiting for the person checking our luggage to stop flirting with this random guy who kept coming up to her for assistance (literally an hour wait). Luckily we had plenty of time since our second flight got delayed too. Now we are staying with Sara´s aunt and uncle´s house, Fany and Hildo. One of their daughters, Pati, is here as well. Everyone is very nice. There ... read more

I think my new found addiction to Brazilian coffee didn't make me realize how tired I was thus I slept about 15 hours on Saturday. Anyways to begin with I have moved apartments. I am now living with two sisters, Aline (23) and Fabiana (27). My room is pretty much a small box with a mattress, which I guess is a good thing because it means I never want to be there except for sleeping. On the up side, it is a perfect location with only a 10 minute walk from work and the girls are very nice with again an unbelievable amount of patience with my portuguese. Things at work this week really picked up because both of my bosses arrived from Germany and Rio but ... read more

Well here goes nothing, the first blog entry...... After a very nice couple of days in Florida saying goodbye to the Grandparents, I took off from Miami towards Brazil. As most of you know, I took a job with ROGON, the soccer agency I worked with in Germany last year. We recently opened a new office in Porto Alegre and one of my main roles will be trying to setup transfers for our clients to the MLS. Anyways, the flights went very smoothly despite the hectic state of the Brazilian airports right now. I only had an 1 and a half between flights in Sao Paulo and somehow got my bags, went through customs, re-checked my bags, went through security and got on the plane to Porto Alegre with 5 minutes to spare. Of course, ... read more

The new team is here, and we have had a pretty productive week. They arrived on wednesday afternoon and were ready to work first thing thursday morning. Work at the new house is coming along nicely. Aside from some odds and ends to finish up the top floor is completed. Power and the water still need to be brought into the house, but the well was put in this week so that was great. It was neat to see that process, as its such an ingenius system they have for it. The highlight of the week for us was a birthday party we were invited to, by one of our sponsor kids, Taciane. She turned 9 and made sure to give us a homemade invitation. Although we couldnt read it, we made sure to have ... read more
