Curitiba - marvels, natural and man-made

While in Curitiba I went on a tour of the Vila Velha state park. There are several rock columns there made of layers of different types of sediments. As the top layers are harder than the lower layers erosion causes them to taper towards their bases (see photo 1). Best to get there soon if you want to see them; the top fell off one of them three years ago.



There are also man-made marvels in Curitiba. They constructed two spaceships, including attached booster rockets, from wood (see photo 2). Unfortunately the first one failed when they attempted to launch it but the second one remains there as a testament to a brave early space programme that was later abandoned.



I was also able to get a rare photograph of one of the local trolls. They will often creep up behind you unnoticed, in spite of their large size and stone-like appearance, squat behind you and mimic your posture (see photo 3).

Mientras que en Curitiba me fui en un tour por el parque estatal de Vila Velha. Hay varias columnas de roca allí hechos de capas de diferentes tipos de sedimentos. A medida que las capas superiores son más duras que las capas inferiores de la erosión hace que se estrechan hacia sus bases (ver foto 1). Lo mejor para llegar allí pronto si quieres verlos, la parte superior se cayó de uno de ellos hace tres años.
También hay maravillas hechas por el hombre en Curitiba. Se construyeron dos naves espaciales, incluyendo cohetes de refuerzo adjuntas, de madera (ver foto 2). Desafortunadamente el primero fracasó cuando intentaron lanzarlo pero el segundo permanece allí como un testimonio de un programa espacial temprano valiente que fue abandonado más tarde.
También tuve la oportunidad de obtener una fotografía rara de uno dos gnomoes locales. A menudo sigilosamente detrás de usted desapercibida, a pesar de su gran tamaño y apariencia similar a la piedra, en cuclillas detrás de usted y de imitar su postura (ver foto 3).
