Wow...is that facial hair??
Wow....is that facial hair?? After spending another night in Sau Luis we made our way back to the bus station for an over night bus and moved further north.
OUrlast day in Sau Luis was nice if rather a little boring, I think we were the only Gringo´s in the city but that wasn´t a problem. The weather was so hot and humid that we could barely walk for longer than an hour before having to head back for the room in our Pousada. The pousada itself wasn´t in the best nick!! The floors felt like they were about to cave in and in the kitchen there was ant coloneys on the wall....a nice sight when you have your first meal of the day. We also had a lizzard living somewhere in our bed but he seemed harmless! For our last night we went to a street bar where there was a live band playing, I am pretty sure they had a remix of Damien Rice´s ´The Blowers Daughter'. Was really nice out as the heat had subsided somewhat and we could relax, well only when we had plenty of mossie spray.
The following day we chilled in the room and went for a few
Dinner time
Dinner time in Salvador wanders around Sau Luis before heading to the bus station. Anne and I were having dinner in one of the little street restaurants when some crazy guy start rambling off in Portugese to me, he really didn´t like it when we couldn´t understand. At one point we thought he might get aggressive but he was so skinny and had nothing on him so wasn´t to worried, I doubt his reflexes were the quickest but still we made a fairly sharp get away from his ranting!!
We got our bus, this bus by far was definately the worst, the seats didnt recline all that much and the seat were very close together, no leg room what so ever! As soon as I sat down the guy in front of me reclined his seat the whole way back to within two inches of my face, then put his oversized hand behind his headrest to fill the extra two inches to my face! The behind we had a family sitting in two seats using my head as an arm rest, I gave them the hint quickly and I was left alone. Thank god for ear plugs, I put them in and then couldnt
Anne chillin in Salvador
Anne chillin on the hammock in Salvador hear a thing and had a great sleep and awoke to an early arrival in Belem.
Already Belem seems much better than Sau Luis. There is a good buss about the place. We have quite a few things to do here so scouting out the place at the moment and trying to negotiate my cheap hammock for the Amazon Adventure! The Markets here are amazing, whatever you want they have it, especially fish. The really have some giant fish so might have a nice home cooked meal this evening! We found a hotel which is only costing 7.5euro each a night, our cheapest so far and they even have two pet parrots flaoting around!
The heat in Belem is quite extreme but the humidity does not seem to be a strong as Sau Luis which is a blessing, we can actually walk around for longer than one hour. We are trying to figure out where to get the boat for our departure, our hotel say they can organise it for us but I want to check around and get the best deal possible so if anyone knows of any extra info we dont have let me know!!
I think tomorrow
Olinda
Another street we are heading off to a national park to hopefully see some decent wildlife and then on Wed will prob jump on the boat to Santerem which is half to our final destination on the Amazon, should take three days to Santerem and then another two after we leave to get to Manaus!
Have some photos of the last couple of weeks so enjoy 😊
