sandy streets
who needs tarmac...?
Heh Mr. Bus driver, can you give me a lift please...Only popping up the road to this supposed place called Barreirinhas...or Paradise - part 1!!! shouldn´t take us too long - only 4 hours...sweet...lets go!
And off we go, and then we arrive...and now we´re lost...Its 9 o clock at night and we need to find somewhere to stay..pousada anyone. kids screaming at us in the street - seriously, no one speaks a word of English and my Portugeeeese isn´t exactly pretty hot! They just talk rubbish to you the whole way down the street and not wanting to be rude, you listen picking up the occasionmal number of short word...ce ce ce ce...is all that´s coming out of my mouth! Then they try to sell you a tour, and the only thing that you can do is point at a map and again say ce ce ce...senior! lol...But what a tour.
The main reason we hit this destination was for the ´nacional parc maranheises des lencois´or something. basically a desert. And I´ve never been to a desert - anyone been to a desert?? I´ll tell you now they are pretty spectacular...The worlds biggest sandpit! And within the desert
the gang
percy is the leader of our pack...of our pack where loads of these blue lagoon pools, so you just run down a sandjune and clean yourself out jumping into the water!! That was all I did all day....climb up a sandjune, run down it again and.....SPLASH! -awesome-
So we dandered round lost in the middle of nowhere, possibly miles from anyone but we were only on the edge, this park is like 270km sq. in size... They also do tours of 4 / 5 day hikes the whole way across it, just throw me a donkey and a turban I´ll be fine...O, and a compass please, and aviators..anyone got some sunglasses?: No....o dear I´m going to be blinded...! Then we watched sunset on top of, well a sandjune...and the sun set behind well, the other sandjunes....seriously - that is all there was...ch ch ch check the photo´s, if they upload..!
Then we returned home for a shower and cracked open a bottle of rocket fuel - that is when it all went wrong...but ended up pretty good!!lol
What´s this rocket fuel I hear you ask...Its purple tequila that looks and tastes like methylated spirits. Not that I´ve ever drank meths, but this comes pretty darn close.
A whole bottle and a couple of games of shithead (cards) later, and all three of us were smashed....Lets go to the reggae bar..chah chah chah - awesome...Memories from this point on are kinda blurry, but I do remember pulling some stunning beautiful little brazilian chick who didn´t speak a word of English! she was awesome...big cheers to our friend marseus who was token translator for the night...good man! munto limbda...Just told her that all night..pretty much sealed the deal with my stuunning looks and irish charm...HA!
Woke up with a splitting headache, but we´re all doing pretty well to make sure we catch breakfast each morning! So up we got (forgetting we´d booked a boat trip for 8 30) to get some bread and go back to bed...but the boat was waiting at the waters edge...O...this isn´t cool! But it was...
First stop - monkey island...cheeky wee beggars...and ducks and geese and goats and cows and supposidly anacondas...but I didn´t even touch the water after I heard that...didn´t see any though!...Again spent the whole day shooting up a river stopping at various spots to take in the sights and let the locals look at us like we
sandjune jumping
whooooopeeeeeeeeeeeeeee were aliens because we were the only white boys in the country - or so it felt!...And again, what else is there to do when you´re in paradise..that´s right - lets hit the beach!!! swim swim swim splash splash...cough cough salt in my lungs...gotta get used to this..!
Looking back, I´m so glad we left Rio...and so glad we chose this route, even if it was 40 odd hours in a bus! The sights and things I have seen over the past 2 weeks are unreal ... and some of the most exciting and eye opening experiences I have ever set look on... We have barely met any other westeners...We are like aliens and people do stop and stare. When we got on a bus in Sao Luis to go to the beach on the first day it was full of school children and they were all burning holes in the back of my head... Nobody speaks english, and it kinda makes you feel guilty that you don´t speak their native language but you get by. Tell you now, my Spanish will be awesome- gonna try extra hard on that one...
And these little towns we turn
lost..!
I would walk 5000 miles... up in for 3 days, to wreak havoc and go crazy...They just end up settling us down and relax relax relax....Can life always be like this?!?!? I absolutley love every minute...It really would be too easy to switch off from the rest of the world...buy myself a beach buggy and hamok...and lie all day every day on the beach drinking from coconuts...! Why Not...?
