After Itacare I headed up the coast a little to Salvador, but we only stayed a couple of days there as the weather wasn’t great and it just didn’t really have a very nice feel to it so a couple of friends and I decided to move further up the coast where the weather is better so we embarked on a mammoth 22hr bus journey to Fortelaze and from there we had to get another 8hr bus, with the final hour and a half of the journey having to be done in a dune buggy and then finally we arrived at Jericaocaoa which is a really little town on the North East coast. Its absolutely beautiful here- the town is tucked between huge sand dunes lagoons and crystal blue sea. We hired a dune buggy today ... read more

Hello, Another busride took us from Fortaleza to Jericoacoara, and after a connecting trip with a special truck we arrived on the seaside again, amidst huge sanddunes. Lovely views, hot temperatures, quite a bit of wind, nice people and good food, met a nice guy Leandro ( xamppoo ) in his excellent restaurant Bistrôgonoff just off the main street, across Cafe Brasil, and found out that he had been travelling in Europe, even had a smal conversation in Dutch and French, great food. Today exploring the city with the many little shops, and walk along the beachside for a few hours, as we like to do mostly. Hallo, Na een busrit van ongeveer 5 uur van Fortaleza zijn we gestopt in een klein plaatsje voor de overstap naar een andere truck-bus 4x4 voor de rit door ... read more

We arrived in Jericoacoara last night (try to pronounce it) what a journey!!! We had to change the bus at some point as our coach couldn't go any further due to sandy roads. (will try to put some pictures later on - from Karolina´s camera). Jeri is a tiny village on the coast, north from Fortleza. Lovely beaches, sand dunes, lagoons, the sun! - this is what we were looking for!... read more

I arrived here very uncertain of what exactly awaited me. Luckily I was welcomed to town by a man named Alvaro who was a local, after having left his homeland in Uruguay, and he spoke perfect english. He showed me around and introduced me to everyone, so I spent a week here. What can I say... It´s Jeri! You may be mildly impressed by some of the images I have managed to capture on my modest 2 megapixel camera, and even if you aren´t even a little impressed by some of the undeniable quality of my shots (composition, lighting, artistic originality, the total package), I can assure you that would someone with any real skill or knowledge in the art of photography have been with me in those places, that the images he/she (let´s not ... read more

Well its been another couple of weeks and I´ve been in country for five weeks now and when I last left you I was leaving Fortaleza heading to a funky little beach town called Jericoacoaca. It’s a cross between Airlee Beach mixed with Coral Bay (WA - people will understand Dowdell) with sandy roads everywhere and heaps of accommodation and restaurants for the tourists. It also must have one of the worlds largest number of beach buggies because everyone has them and run sand dune tours and take you out to some lakes to swim etc. Then in the arvo everyone heads up the sand dunes and watches the sunset over the town. The first day we got there you get off a bus and into a 4 wheel drive truck for an hour-long ride ... read more

Hello all Latest stop has been in Jericoacoara (or Jeri). Sposed to be a kite surfing mecca, and as Tim had brought is kite gear we were all up for it. Spent four nights in total- didnt get the kit out the bag once. It rained every day we were there on and off, also not the high season for the surf scene, hence wind was bit unpredictible. So it should have been a really crap stay but it didnt turn out that bad. Jeri has the most chilled out vibe of any place i have ever been. There is no roads proper just sand tracks, So normal cars just sand buggies and pick ups. To get to Jeri we took a six hour bus from Fortaleza where the last two hours we had to travel ... read more

13th November- 20th November Jericocoara, nicknamed Jeri, is without a doubt one of god´s little gems of beauty.... Imagine this. a broad cream sandy beach, palm trees swaying above the beachside bars where you leisurly lay enjoying your caipirinha. turqouise blue waters (but arent they all in North Brazil!!!). and the mystical sand dunes rising from the left where all the sunset worshippers make a pilgrimage each day to witness the daily changing magnificence of the sun setting over the horizon! despite having seen so many sunsets along my trip, i still feel overwhelmed by each one... Jeri is a definitely a european haven, blessed with strong winds, it has become the mecca for windsurfers and any sport requiring wind. It is not surprising to find about 80 people windsurfing in the same area, bypassing each ... read more

Despite the towns of Praia da Pipa and Jericoacoara being constantly compared by travelers as equals, they´re truly not. In order to get to Jeri, you must hop on a all-terrain vehicle that drives you an hour over barren beaches and dunes and kilometers and kilometers of uninhabited land. I mean, the city is literally in the middle of absolutely nowhere. All the streets are composed of nothing but sand, so there´s a feel that you´re on the beach wherever you are. In Jeri you can do almost anything you can imagine from lounging lazily in front of your pousada to playing soccer on the beach to windsurfing to kitesurfing to hiking to horseback riding to taking yoga classes to learning capoeria on the beach to going on a buggy excursion. Once again, the four of ... read more

Dear Bob, I quit. Please accept my conditional resignation as an educator in this district. Upon reflection, and a three-day visit to Jericaocoara, I have decided that working for a living just isn’t for me. Getting to Jericoacoara is about as adventuresome as pronouncing the name of this idyllic location, the one-hour jolting trip in an open truck, plowing through sand and surf, will serious make you contemplate the following demands. If they are not met, I’m gone. Here are my stipulations: 1. You must make sandals the official footwear of the workplace. In Jeri, nothing is paved, so there is no point in wearing anything else. 2. Dune buggies must replace yellow school buses as the mode of transportation for all students, faculty, and staff. 3. Hallways must be of sand, about eight inches thick. ... read more
