great little town, fab hostel, awesome people, yummy ... no!.. ABSOLUTLEY FANTASTIC! food, waterfalls, lots of green trees!..AND LOTS of rain! After a 6 hour bus ride we arrived in Lencois at about 7am.. found a great pousada a short walk from the bus station (Pousada Casa de Helia) with views across the valley and THE BEST breakfast spread so far!... homemade bread, tropical fruits, mango juice, pizza slices, about 5 different cakes & my favourite!.... deep fried cinnamon coated doughnut holes!..MMMM MMM! Lencois is a little town that is surrounded by Chapada Diamantina National Park, so there are plenty of things to see so getting right into it,we were talked into a tour at breakfast the morning of our arrival. Well folks I have yet to tell you about the tours that I took from Salvador. So without further delay let us get down to it. The National Park - Day 1 Chapada Diamantina is a national park and Lencois is one of the former diamond mining towns that is located within that park. The bus ride from Salvador to Lencois was not exactly my definition of a good night. the bus left late at 11pm and got there at around 5am with stupid stops along the way. The bus driver would just pull over in the middle of nowhere and wait for about 20 minutes and then just keep on driving. I simply don´t get it. But who am I to ask questions. Ok after a month travelling its about time that we added a new journal !! We flew (very posh and not at all traveller like - we know!) to Salvador and after spending a day or two mooching round the Pelorinho - headed for some tranquility at Lençois. Lençois is the gateway to the Chapada Diamantina National Park - which is a vast expanse of waterfalls , rock formations , canyons and tabletop mountains. Lençois itself is a fabulous little town with very old colonial architecture - all of the buildings are made of stone - and the area has now been protected under a preservation order. We had a wonderful time in Lençois - doing not a lot really - we ventured out to the top of Pai Incio to see sunset from the top ... read more
