I love this place...and let's put it simply, no way I can do a single blog about our Uyuni 3/4 days trip...so you'll just have to suffer three entries. Yes too, I acknowledge that I'm late already blogging and it will only go worst. I'm still replying to a seriously decent amount of emails everyday, so going through the pictures and blogging is done after visiting, replying to email, simply enjoying every moments of life...and there is only 24 hours in a day, with nights that are way too often way too short! Smile! After some 8 years, I'm back to Bolivia...and specially to Uyuni region, one of the top 10 place for me to visit in the world. Second visit this time, a first for Tanya, but if you ask, yes, we will come back ... read more

Salar de Uyuni (The Salt Flats) - The Surreal Realm of Bolivia’s Southwest (17/07/2018-19/07/2018) You´ve probably seen the perspective photos. Millions of years ago, there was a huge, salty lake in the southwest of Bolivia. It´s now totally dried up and has become Salar de Uyuni: the World’s largest salt flat. Beautiful, salty, geometric patterns span over 4,000 miles; welcome to the surreal realm of Bolivia´s southwest. The crew and I chose the 3 day trip (because, why wouldn't we, these landscapes here rock!). We would start in Uyuni and end in north Chile, in San Pedro de Atacama. Easy, peasy. Just imagine.... surreal desert landscapes pretty lagoons wild llamas and alpacas cute desert creatures beautiful pink and black flamingos huge snow-capped volcanoes a crazy, cactus cover... read more

Potosí Silver Mine: Playing with Dynamite (15/07/2018-16/07/2018) Silver is big business in Bolivia. In Potosí (4000m) lies Cerro Rico (4800m): a huge mountain full of silver veins. Since the beginning of the mining, Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain) has lost over 400 meters in height due to the now 60 miles of tunnels created in eager search of silver. Now it is in imminent danger of collapsing into itself but all thanks to Bolivia's lack of health and safety standards, gringos are allowed to enter. Yay! Not only that, but you can buy miners presents from the local miners market and give them as gifts during the tour. Some bought lemonade, some bought gloves, some bought masks.. But I bought an actual stick of dynamite (it also comes with detonator and a bag of ammonium nitrate to ... read more

Welcome To The Jungle: Adventures In The Pampus (08/07/2018 - 10/07/2018) In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight... Okay, so there are no lions in this jungle... but there are caymen and pink dolphins, amongst other jungle critters. Yes, you read that correctly.. pink dolphins. I hadn't heard of them either until this trip. To get to the Bolivian jungle, you need to get to Rurrenabaque. From La Paz, it´s a horrendously bumpy but cheap night bus, or an expensive 35 minute flight. I opted for the former, and unluckily had the seat right at the back so it didn´t recline (boo, no sleep for me). Once at Rurrenabaque in the early hours (6am) - you have time to choose your agency and choose between the Amazon or the Pampus tour, before they ... read more

Bolivia Part 1 Copacabana and Isla Del Sol (01/07/2018 - 03/07/2018) Copacabana Copacabana; a small, pleasant town on the shore of Lake Titicaca (3800m), and my first stop in Bolivia. The Peru-Bolivia border was very quick and easy (20 minutes), and there were no issues. I didn't really know exactly what to expect in Bolivia. I knew the infrastructure would deteriorate (it definitely did, hello bumpy roads and increasingly rustic buildings) and I knew it would be cheaper (great for my bank balance!). But I had also heard the food was nothing to write home about. Regardless of the latter, I was super excited to see what Bolivia had to offer and determined to find some delicious Bolivian food. Here in Copacabana, you can eat your body weight in trout. Interesingly, the trout consumed by the ... read more

La Paz: Witches, Wrestling, and The World's Most Dangerous Road (03/07/2018- 07/07/2018 and 11/07/2018 - 12/07/2018) Not everyone loves La Paz. A sensory overload: a complete chaotic feast for the eyes and ears. Ironically, 'La Paz' translates as 'the peace'. Quite far from it, my friends! La Paz is the World’s highest capital ‎(3,640m) and a city that willl challenge your senses like nowhere else. Constant honking streams of traffic... biazarre sights and smells... streets piled with rubble... endless, bustling markets... wrinkled and toothless, traditionally dressed locals... La Paz was weirdly charming. It reminded me of India, actually. With it's poor infrastructure, La Paz is a clusterfuck of architecture in the city centre, with rows and rows of unfinished terra... read more

We have to admit, we were a little unsure about visiting Bolivia... It isn't a country known for its luxuries (carrying ones own toilet paper everywhere is a must!) and having heard horror stories of friends being robbed there, we were definitely more than a little apprehensive. We didn't get off to a great start - with a 5 hour delay at the border crossing from Chile. But once we got going, Bolivia completely blew us away! We spent our first few days in Bolivia on a salt flats tour. Starting in San Pedro in Chile, we drove up through south Bolivia over 3 days stopping regularly to marvel at the various volcanoes, lagoons and beautiful landscapes we were passing en route. Our tour finished at Salar de Uyuni - the world's largest salt flat (the ... read more

How to fall in love with Bolivia within a week. First cross the frontier in a luxury bus, then enjoy some quality and cheap breakfast. Head to the observatory in Tarija in the evening and look at the moon through a telescope. Do a wine tour and enjoy amazing landscapes at 5000 meter above sea level during a 4 day tour. Bolivia has the biggest indigenous population of South America, so you are easy to be spotted as a gringo. We arrived in Tarija on the 23rd of January, where we spent the first two days in a small hostel. We booked a wine tour for the next day in the afternoon, or let's say we thought we did. After coming out from our room at 8:15 to eat some breakfast we found out the tour ... read more
