La Paz is the highest capital city in the world, although as Bolivia has two capitals it has to vie for the title with Sucre. Surrounded by mountains the city is sqashed into a crater which gives it a village like feel.

To enter the city you have to pass a large statue of Che Guevara stood on top of the American eagle. His image reoccurs throughout the city showing that while Bolivia was the last place that he was seen alive he has not be forgotten.

Here the modern world mixes with the past and you can buy all manner of items at the witches market.
This includes llama foetuses which are supposed to bring luck if buried under your house - herbs and spices which can both kill and cure as well as a range of minitures to represent your hearts desires. Whether it be money, a new car, a house or something more frivillous - locals believe that if they get them blessed by a preist in the month of January they will get the real thing in the forthcoming year.

Now what should I wish for?
