We saw all 3 species. The other two were the Chilean and the Andean Flamingos.

The llareta ("yareta") plant only grows in high altitudes. They can be thousands of years old. A beautiful contrast to the thorny cacti in these parts.

Having been through there in February this year I am taken by how these wilderness areas change from month to month...always beautiful as your pic attests. We had the salt flats in flood. What month were you there?

No floods here!
Hey Dancing Dave! We have just been to the salt flats in mid April and there was hardly a drop of water to be had. Even some of the lakes were getting a wee bit dry.

Salt Monument
This is the logo of the Dakar Rally, which will be run in Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina in 2016. Looks like they made clever use of salt to make a billboard.
