On arrival to Copacabana we checked into our average hotel with 5 star views of Lake Titicaca. Lake Titcaca is one of the highest navigateable lakes in the world and almosts feels as if you are on the ocean as you gaze out to the water on the horizon. Matt spent the afternoon in bed recovering from a dodgey dinner while Leanne explored Copacabana by firstly climbing to the lookout where the views of the Isalnds and lakes were amazing. At 3800m this steep but short climb felt a lot harder than it actually was.
The next day with Matt feeling much better after a dose of the super strength Indian antibiotics, we got the 8.30 ferry out to the Isladel Sol (Island of the sun) on what we think must have been the world´s slowest boat. After 2 hours on the boat (canoe speed), we pulled into the north end of the island as we decided to make the 3 hour trek across the island to be picked up at the southern end. Lake Views
Kicking back in our Hotel were rewarded with great views of the glistening lake and the snow capped mountains of the Cordillera Real in the distance.
There seem to be several villages on the island with each wanting a piece of the action as they set up "official" tax booths along our journey. After finally getting to the end and paying the taxes in the crazy and unorganized manner we sat and had a couple of beers while waiting for our ferry.
Copacabana is a nice little town with the most amazing sunsets to accompany your Pisco Sour but we were keen to push on. So tomorrow we say adios to Bolivia and move around the lake shore to a village on the Peruvian side and are look forward to checking out the famous floating islands.
