Our Arrival Our bus from Uyuni dropped us off at their office at 4:10am which is a couple of blocks (towards town) from the bus station. It also stopped outside the bus station where we got off. We went into the bus station and waited around until about 6:30am when the sun had risen and then walked into town. There is a map in the bus station on the wall. Go out of the terminal and turn left down Av Ostria Gutierrez. When you reach the main road Av Mendoza turn right, then a couple of blocks later left down Arce to the centre of town. It took about 25 mins.
Where We Stayed Alojamiento Virgen De Guadalupe - Bs. 60 for a double room with TV and shared bathroom with hot showers. No wifi. Opposite the market on Calle Arce. It was open when we arrived early in the morning and let us store bags there until our night bus the next night.
What We Did Walked around the City - including up to the Recoleta lookout and up the Eiffel tower in Parque Bolivar. There is
no longer a free walking tour of the City.
VISITED PARQUE CRETACIO
We visited Parque Cretacico to see the dinosaur footprints.
We went there with public transport. From Calle Junin we caught a micro with 'Francesa' on the front. It cost Bs.1.50 payable to the driver as you get on. The park is the last stop on the bus. We caught the bus at 2:50pm and arrived at 3:45pm. The bus drops you outside a cement factory and you have to walk up a ramp to get to the park.
You can see some of the footprints though the fence but we paid into the park. Admission is Bs. 30 each which includes a free tour in English. The tour told you about how the area was formed and about how the footprints got there. The footprints themselves are quite far away however the guide told us that they have recently started taking people closer to the prints. The tours where you can go closer happen at 12pm and 1pm only so try and get there for then. It also better light to see the footprints at midday.
To get back there were
waiting micros where we got dropped off. We took micro 4 for Bs. 1.50 which dropped us outside our hostel and the market.
Where We Ate The market has a food court on the 2nd floor with cheap meals and full lunches.
There is a supermarket SAS on Calle Perez, a couple of blocks West of the main plaza.
About Sucre Sucre was pleasantly warm, especially after Uyuni.
The BNP bank on the main square has an ATM where you can get US$.
Where We Went Next We caught a night bus to Santa Cruz. We caught a micro to the terminal from Calle Junin which took 10 mins and cost Bs. 1.50.
At the terminal we were met by people selling tickets to Santa Cruz. We went with Expresso Santiago who had a bus at 5pm and cost Bs. 50.
You have to pay Bs 2.50 terminal tax before going out to the platforms. Our bus left from the left of all the platforms at 5:10pm. The bus wasn't the best we have been on and there wasn't much leg room. We stopped
Dinosaur Footprints
All the little marks are various tracks at 8:40pm for a half hour dinner break and again at 3am for a toilet break.
We got to Santa Cruz terminal at 7:40am.
