Completed my first week at school and it´s all gone pretty well. I´m not exactly fluent yet but, I am starting to understand a lot more of what people are saying to me. Did a walking tour of the city on Thursday, it´s a beautiful place. But, more importantly, the guide offered to take me to see Boca juniors (Argentina´s biggest football club) play on Sunday. Waiting for a mail at the mo to confirm the arrangements- I hope it comes off. I had my first real night out last night and am paying for it today. Everything starts so late here, it´s difficult to get used to. I finished my dinner in a restaurent at 11 and got to the bar I was heading for around 12, it was empty!! People started arriving between 2 ... read more

Saturday. Herv and Karla depart at 22:45. Master traveller Herv has arranged a late departure from the hotel, so we have a full day ahead to SHOP! We are off to the Palermo Soho neighborhood. It is centered around the Plaza Sorrento and every radiating street holds more surprises. There is a Saturday market in operation when we arrive, so Holden and Herv head there, while Julia and I head to the boutiques. We agree to meet to have lunch at the small Hotel Bo Bo. Leather goods and clothing is of exceptional quality and very reasonably priced. For the first time, I wish I had brought an empty suitcase to fill. Reason number 43 why we have to return. ... read more

Hello chaps, i have decided that i need to start a new blog entry before i forget what i have been doing for the last month. Life on the road has been really busy and i keep finding out about cool new things to do. I last left you having finished the torres del paine circuit and having a big night out to celebrate. The next day i headed off to punta arenas which the best thing i can say about is it was better than puerto natales. It is right at the southern end of chile, and the towns down here on the chilean side are all a bleak collection of houses with tin roofs. Punta arenas however was once a quite rich city as it controlled the passage around cape horn. Therefore it has ... read more

On the return journey from Iruya and on our way to Purmamarca, we passed by what is known as "The Painter's Palette". We could only take a semi-decent picture of this, not easy from a moving vehicle, but the bus didn't stop here. We stayed just the one night in Purmamarca to see "The Mountain of 7 Colours" in the morning, a unique rock formation where many different layers have been exposed by the forces of nature. This colourful mountain really is stunning to see, one can't stop looking at it and taking pictures, it looks almost impossible that nature could have created it so beautiful and harmonious. The stopover in Purmamarca also helped to break up a long bumpy road journey from Iruya to Salta, where we headed to next. The main reason why we ... read more

I went with the same person from the school who has tryed to organize several other trips that he cancelled but this one finally happened. I arrived at the school at 8:30 am and there were three other students in the car. Two were from the other big language school here and one was from my school. The two women were from Belgium and spoke French. The guy was England. The guy and one of the girls were living in the same residental house here in Cordoda. They were exhaused and we had not even begun the trip. But this trip for them was only a continuation of the night before. They arrived home from ... read more

Friday is a day of exploration. Holden and Julia are off to locate the Brazilian Consulate to start the process to obtain visas. Herv and Karla are off to explore San Telmo - the Tango neighborhood. It is basically just around the corner from the hotel, but we have to cruise by the Casa Rosada and along one of the main streets just to soak up more of the BA feeling. San Telmo is packed with antique stores and crafts vendors. There is evidence of a renaissance, as some of the older buildings are being renovated and lots of sold signs are apparent. The local vendors have a wide variety of beautiful produce - watermelons 30" long and ears of corn nearly a foot long - that make your mouth water. Since we walk almost everywhere ... read more

There were no roses or candy this Valentine´s day. Griff and I woke up in the morning, walked across the room to the other from our tiny twin beds, wished each other a Happy Valentine´s Day, and headed to the bus station for our seven hour bus ride to Punta Arenas. The trip was only a portion of our voyage to the end of the earth, Ushuaia, which is on the southern tip of South America. It is one heck of a journey, requiring us to head inland from Argentina, cross the border into Chile, hop another bus from Chile back into Argentina, and drive another twelve hours with a transfer between one junky buss to another. (Each buss gets squishier and older the farther you go.) Most of the twelve hour ride is over gravel ... read more

Hier aber vorerst mal Fotos ... read more

I know I've been slippin on updating this thing, but honestly I've been really busy!! What I thought was busy in Richmond is nothing compared to here (except of course during exams). I get up early and go all day. It's great, but I'm not accustomed to it at all so it is taking some time to adjust. I guess it's been a week since my last entry so I have a lot to update on. (That's my punishment for putting it off so long). Class has been pretty typical, all in Spanish and lots of workbook exercises. I don't feel like I'm learning much though. It is difficult to understand a foreign concept in a foreign language. Not only do you have to struggle with understanding the grammar rules she's explaining, but you have to ... read more
