After Eiris left, we slowly went travelling to the north again. After two months driving in one direction, to the south, it was a welcome change. Our first stop in San Juan brought us to a a large ship that was drifted on the shore. Then we headed for Puerto Natales, were Jura had her first decend vegetarian meal in weeks again. She was very happy, so we ate there three times a day.
The car needed another round of attention after all the gravel in Terra del Fuego. We had to buy new shock absorbers. We now know all the repuestos in Puorto Natalesand the different shockabsorbers. They did not have the ones we needed, so we made them ourselves!
We bought new ones and adapted them to our situation with old ones we bought at another shop. The mechanic loved it and was impressed by the creativity.
Torres del Paine is indeed very beautifull, when it is nice weather.
After TDP we drove to MT. Fitz Roy on the famous Routa 40. On routa 40 there's nothing besides very nice views and lot's of animals.
Sometimes there is no nafta (petrol) for 450 km, very isolated. But there is
one big attraction which is marketed very well. It is the cave of the hands (cueva de las manos). It is just an overhang on the rocks, where some people 9000 years ago spray paited their hands on the rock surface. It was not very special, however walking there from Casa del Piedra was very nice! We walked for 6 hours through a canyon along the river.
We crossed the border again at Chile Chico back into Chile.
We took the road around the lake Buenos Aires to the Carreta austral, nr 7.
The road was amazing, so rough. More about it next time!
