Sugalvoju vietoj to, kad čia pusdienį laukti ... read more

Monday 30th April - Cafayate to Tafi del Valle A 2pm bus to Tafi helped facilitate a nice leisurely late start and a walk around town to purchase some of the infamous wine ice cream. Stacie had the tinto and I got stuck with the blanco as she said it tasted like dirt and she was right. Mildly tipsy, we headed off on our 2 hour bus ride to Tafi through the mountains. We arrived in a sleepy village with buildings dotted sporadically across the mountain side which gave a slightly odd feel to the place but nonetheless it had a really nice quaint feel to it and we popped out from our new farmyard estancia to buy some local cheese and salami. Tuesday 1st May - Tafi to Tucuman Today is labour day and a ... read more

The lack of cabin fever meant we all arrived in Tucuman feeling pretty good, so squeezed in one taxi with all our stuff somehow - a show of sheer determination considering the size of the taxi and only seen before and matched by our taxi driver in Pisco, incredible! - and made our way to Tucuman Hostel (imaginatively named!). The taxi driver was a chatty fellow who at hearing we were English declared his passion for rugby over football and proudly told us that the Tucuman team was currently number one in the country, well done them. The Hostel was a place with a nice courtyard, friendly people, decently priced but unfortunately the pool boasted on the website was un-swimmable, if you planned on exiting it in the same health as you entered. We were all ... read more

Wow the bus station here in Tucuman is huge! Like a shopping center, well it actually is. 12 hours in the bus relieved to be off it, there were a group of guys who sat around me one is my seatmate, annoying as hell, played music loudly and the guy sat next to me keeps changing seats, one time bumping his head on the tv , he never came back to his seat and I slept pretty well through the night. Thre was a bad smell in the bus that pervade for awhile, either i got used to it or it disappeared, I took the semi cama to save 7 US dollars, the upgrade was grand! Next time.. Took a taxi to La Posta de Viajero hostal. Paint peeling from the rooms, but its nice overall, ... read more

I could not get a bus with a seat that reclines to the full 180 degrees that I have become acustomed to (God help me when I reach Bolivia) direct to Salta so I thought I would catch a luxury bus to Tucuman and then catch a bus the next day for 3 hours to Salta. I guess all of this is working out quite well as I am seeing a lot of other places that I would have driven straight past! I arrived in Tucuman following a pretty good nights sleep. At the age of 31 I have finally perfected the art of sleeping in strange places with noise and commotion in the background! Tucuman is a nice place actually. It is the 5th largest city in Argentina. You can definitely tell that you have ... read more

Travelling is almost as much about the people you meet as it is about the places you go. Along the way, I've had the chance to meet loads of really lovely people - but most of them have been other backpackers from Western countries. It's been quite hard to meet and get to know people from the countries I've been travelling through....until now, that is. Easter is a big holiday period for Argentinians. Not only do they get the Thursday and Good Friday as holiday, but this year the Monday after was a holiday too, in memory of the 'desaparecidos' of the 1970s. I had chosen to spend Easter in a small town near Tucumán in the north-west of Argentina, called Tafí del Valle. My guidebook told me it was beautiful, and a good spot for ... read more
