DAY 6 DAY 6 Today we flew to Ushuaia the most southerly town in Argentina at 55 degrees south. Forecast to be cooler than the last few days at 15c but not bad with sunny breaks between the cloud and wind less than expected. First impressions "Ushuaia is not the prettiest town I have seen" due to rapid growth subsidised by the govt but without any extra infrastructure finance or much planning. That said it is surrounded by magnificent views of the snow caped Andes to the west, Tierra del Fuego to the south and the pristine waters of the Beagle Channel, named after the ship in which Charles Darwin sailed in 1832 and led to his now famous theories.
No formal activities this afternoon and we wandered along the two main streets of the town & caught up on a few housekeeping chores before full days coming up.
