You can go no further south in the world by land transport - job done.
And so we have come as far south as it is possible for us to go, to Tierra del Fuego, where the road ends. Around 100 miles south of us is the small group of islands which make up Cape Horn. As a group, we rolled down to the end of Ruta 3, had a big hug, took some photos, and headed back to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world.

Since leaving the most notherly point of the road in Alaska, we have:

Ridden 20,311 miles
Visited 13 countries (USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina)
Crossed 17 land borders (including 7 times between Argentina and Chile)
Stayed in nearly 100 different hotels
Had 3 haircuts (2 for Christine, 1 for me)
Smashed the world record for consumption of consecutive scrambled egg breakfasts

After a couple of days of boozing and penguin spotting here in Ushuaia, we will start the 2,000 mile ride back up to Buenos Aires, from where the bike will be shipped home, so we will report back for the final time from there. In the meantime, enjoy your Christmas shopping.

Adios amigos.

And just when you think you can't cope with any more fantastic scenery, you turn another corner something like this happens.

Ahh look, there's a Guanaco. Omigod, what's that coming out of it's bottom? Arrrgh, it's a miniature Guanaco!

And it stumbled around and fell on its face just like Bambi - a proper David Attenborough moment, right by the side of the road in Torres del Paine.

... and they still want them back. Doesn't cause any problems though, everyone is incredibly friendly.

He's having a thoughtful moment before getting on the ferry across the Magellan Straits to Tierra del Fuego - and who can blame him?

The end of the world/road
A brilliant and unforgettable achievment - pity the end of the world does not have an apocryphal medieval chasm you can look over. It looks a bit like lots of other places. We are all looking forward to seeing you back - thank you Chrissie so much for my birthday call and message. So sorry to have missed you. I was in Dublin for my birthday. Much love Ludo xxx

You've only gone and done it!
So pleased for you both...although I think it a little selfish to finish and thereby deny me (us) of your wit and amazing photography of parts of the Earth I'm unlikely ever to venture to...can't you stay a bit longer (notwithstanding, Kendal, that I miss you!). Can't wait to catch up. It really looks like it was the trip of a lifetime. And you're still together! ha ha. Love ya, see ya, byeee (thanks for reminding me C) B xx
