I spend my last day in Ushuaia visiting the Maritime Museum and the former Presidio in the morning and hiking the Glacier Martial in the afternoon. The museum, which is housed in the old prison of the former Penal Colony Tierra del Fuego, shows the life of the prisoners, as well as a pretty interesting account of the expeditions to Antarctica. The Maritime portion of the museum tells the story of the ships who have sailed the cold waters of the Antarctic and the waters around Tierra Del Fuego and provides a glimpse into the life of the regions history. I found it all really interesting, but since it was such a nice day, I had to go for another hike in the afternoon. I took a taxi from town up towards the Glacier Martial base, and hiked the 1.5 up to the top of the Glacier. The Glacier itself really was not all that spectacular... seemed more like a big snowfield, but the views of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel were absolutely worth it. Once again I am going to let the picture speak for themselves! 😊 , SO ENJOY!
Oh, by the way I am now in El
Calafate, and am staying at another amazing hostel! Would highly recommend America del Sur to anyone who is traveling this way! I arrived here this afternoon and will go on a little mini- trekking excursion in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, in particular Glaciar Perito Moreno tomorrow! So more on that in tomorrows blog.!
