We found a casita on the shores of Laguna Nahuel Huapi for un navidad muy tranquilo! .. It was so beautiful and quiet.. and of all the places I have been to in Argentina, I would say it is a "must visit" location. The casita we stayed in is 24km from Bariloche town on the "circuito chico" and has the most amazing views of the Andes, Laguna Nahuel Huapi and a huge huge sky. The casita is owned by Shanie and Jamie, who are from California and have set up home in Patagonia.. they've renovated it with a really personal touch and it's in a stunning location:

We hired a car so were able to travel round the area.. our highlights were:

- Finding lots of secluded little beaches and rivers for picnics

- Swimming (or paddling.. some of the water was freezing!) in the fresh, crystal clear water from the mountains. The water in the lakes is drinkable.

- Trying the Patagonian trout (Xmas lunch) and smoked venison.. and the chocolate that Bariloche is famous for

- Waking up at 6am with the sun streaming in the windows and looking at the Andes

- El Bolson (a little hippy town South of Bariloche) .. We wandered round the artisan market, and within 30 minutes there we had eaten empanadas, rasberry chocolate, rasberry and cream waffle, rasberry juice.. and then we decided we had to share a trout for lunch.. all in the interest of research

- Learning that summer can turn into winter in 5 minutes. We were so lucky with the weather for the whole week, but on the last day the wind blew, the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped by 20 degrees.. no joke! .. we were saying all week that we could live there.. but this was a reminder that it's a skiing venue for most of the year and it's COLD.

- Driving back from San Martin de los Andes through the National Park.. a challenging drive along a gravel road, and amazing glacial rock formations

- The smell of a log fire in the evenings.. and teaching a tropical boy how to light it 😊

- Looking at all of the summer flowers.. i worked out that the purple ones were lupins but the countryside was covered in purple, yellow, white and pink

- Waking up on Sunday morning to find out the government had moved the time one hour ahead, without warning (or maybe we were just watching the wrong channel!)

Truly an amazing week out of the city...
