a small quaint hippie town akin to nimbin in australia, full of dreadlocked hippies, street kids trying to sell u pot and home to anything organic and home-made. this has become a backpacker stop for obvious reasons. i stayed in a refugio on a farm. no i didnt milk any cows!! it was very tranquil...went trekking up a mountain made of granite to get to a view point with 25 figures made from the stumps of dead trees...yep, you're right, it wasnt that exciting!! The town becomes alive on market days- tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays...these, it seems, are the only days that people work!! not a bad way of life...i met an Israeli girl at the refugio that looked like Natalie Portman...who it turns out is also Jewish and was born in Israel...as i had said ... read more

went to El Bolson to do a little hiking. El Bolson is a nice quiet place with nice hiking in the area. one of the nice things about Argentina is that there are refugios where you can sleep and buy food and drinks. therefore, you don't have to lug around camping equipment, cooking supplies, food .... Just take a nice hike in the woods and your bed will be ready for you when you get there. i ran into Lynne, hope the spelling is right, from California at the refugio the first night. Lynne was staying in the hostel that i stayed at in bariloche. Also met mike and Be, Mike is a gringo from Red sox nation (not a GWB fan) and Be is from Austria. They met in Honduras where they were dive instructors. ... read more
