Flight from Rio to Foz de Iguacu airport took 2 hours its amazing the size of Brazil this flight path took only a very small corner of Brazil. On our arrival we spoke to the tourist info centre who adivsed us to visit the Barzillian side as it is only a short bus ride away. So we put our rucksacks into lockers at the at the airport and caught a bus to the falls.
The falls are absolutely a amazing you follow paths to different points of the water falls, as you walk the air is filled with beauitfull butterflies who land on your arms and legs, if you keep still then you can feel them sucking the moisture from your skin. There are also tiny Raccoon type animals scurrying over the pathways they a cheeky things as they like to be fed and people are advised not, but of cousre this can encourage them to become a pest when you are eating your food.
At one point ......... you can walk out on a metal bridge over the river at the bottom of a waterfall, and feel the full force and spray of the falls, which was nice
The Brazilian side
the pathways leading to various falls as the air is hot and humid. The Brazilian side took about two hours, back to the airport to pick up our rucksacks and then a bus and taxi over the border into Argentina. Puerto Iguacu is a small, dusty town that is only there because of the tourists staying and going to the falls, our hostel is ok about 3 on the 1 to 10 scale, ok not so good but thats the thing you never know, we signed up for the bbq and paid about £11 for a 400 gram nicely cooked bone, instant mashed potato and a stale salad, but the treat was the party that kept us awake till 4 in the morning.
The Argentinian side of the falls is far larger than the Brazilian and took then whole day to see, there was various trails to numerous falls all amongst hot and humid jungle like vegitation, the only problem was that it was sunday and the rest of Argentina had decided to see the falls with us, we set off at a fast pace (lot to see) only to be stopped by slow walking people, but with a bit of ducking and dodging we
Coatis
These Raccoon like animals but are not. they are accomplished food thieves. managed to break the park record completion time, the falls are awe inspiring, too much for words, one of the highlights was a boat trip into and under two of the falls (everyone gets soaked to the skin) but the best was the "devils throat", we had to get a small gauge train which dropped us at the 2km metal walkway over the river which ended at the throat, the platform looked down at the c shaped fall, 1800 cubic meters of water per second plunged into the river below, the spray, rainbows and noise were amazing, snapped off about a million pictures (sorry Richard)
Night bus to Cordoba, the buses are good, cheap prices, comfy seats and overnight so you save the price of a hostel and food while traveling, checked into the hostel, this is a 2 on the scale, not what the web site said but the showers warm so we deside to stay. Cordoba is a uni city, lots of students, but the old colonial buildings are all but gone, replaced by highrise flats and offices, we took a bus out to Alte Garcea a small town 40km outside Cordobe and visit the First home
of "Che gevara" visit a museum , lots of original buildings and history.
In Cordoba visited a place of information/museum off the main square San Martin square next to Cordoba's Cathderal an old police station/ interggation centre which was used during 1975 up to 1982 when Argentina was under military rule to hold people who were accused of plotting againest the military goverement. In the old police station it was kept almost to how it prehaps was, with no modernzation just old bare walls and floors. There are cells with names and dates scratched of the people held there. In one room the relatives of the victims have made scrap books for each person of thier past life with photographs, thier age, occuaption and if the family know what happened to the person, many had drawings done it seems by childern of the victim. In one room the held person was photograhed with a number and date of caputure held over thier head, in this room now is a video which runs fast showing lots of different people being photograhped. Many of the people were in ordinary every day jobs, many were 18 and under years old, who were
students. The place gave us goose bumps because in 1975 we were just about 16 years old and free to say and do what we liked, it was very sad and made you think how unfair life is for some.
