A roomwith a view The land of Tango the wonderful city of Buenos Aires. It was a long old flight nearly 13 hours but we left behind the cold and snow and found ourselves in the southern hemisphere and in temperatures of 33plus- YES! It didn’t take more than a day for my crowning glory to go AWOL in the high humidity – Oh well! You cant have it all !!
Buenos Aires founded a little over two hundred years ago grew up as a port river town along the mighty Rio de la Plata. It now has an inna city stable population of around 3 million with a greater BA total of nearly 14 million and that is over 10% of the county’s people. It boasts its European heritage and everywhere you go you see the Spanish and French influence with lovely little plazas teeming with pavement cafes spilling into the road Its architecture reflects its history too and some of the larger buildings are colonial and magnificent and some are quaint town houses brightly painted , with flowers cascading from the balconies. I am sure you get the picture ,Spain on a plate so to speak and we are all feeling very

walking the walk! at home !!.
The city has many differing neighbourhoods and communities as all capital cities do. We are located in one of the newest areas where much work has been undertaken in the last few years to regenerate the old docklands, the architects have left the cranes in situ as grand yawning animals and piecesnof modern sculpture , bit looks spectacular. The Portenos ( the people of BA) parade , roller skate. Jog and generally enjoy themselves as we did on our first night . It was warm and balmy and great to sit with a glass of rosardo and people watch. So now along this part of the river are restaurants and cafes galore it is very trendy and we were introduced to the famous Argentinian asado (BBQ!!) we chomped our way through huge and I mean huge steaks , we actually could have shared just one, the meal was delicious with wonderful tapas and exquisite home made bread. . I think food wise we were spoilt that night because since then our experience has not been quite as good!!
We have trekked through the city in the heat visiting most of the highlights ,

lunch time tango we have seen the mausoleum where Evita was eventually laid to rest and the balcony in the Las Madres de Plaza de Mayo from where she engaged with the people . We have visited the city cathedral lunched in the beautiful and spiritual root of San Telmo district where we have been entertained with tango dancing in the plaza. We travelled to the district of la Boca where the tango is said to have been born and where artisans display their wears . have to say Lou and I indulged in some jewellery buying – nothing new there then!! We also visited the famous Plaza de Mayo where those who want to demonstrate and make their views known meet and today the “mothers of the disappeared” still gather to show their grief at the loss of their children during the military dictatorships.
I took my self off on a solo trip , Al and Lou were off exploring the hot city ( mad fools) to the south of the city to an area known as Tigre where the Rio de la Plata together with other rivers expand into the huge delta . This is an area of over 21,000

happy people square kms and is made up of over 5000 waterways with a population of 3000 residents and its islands made up of the silts of the rivers are exploited to supply a range of industries. I was somewhat disappointed , I thought I was off to see the wild life of the delta instead it was sailing through a middleclass beautiful island community –a bit of a lost opportunity there!!. We leave the heat and humidity of BA for the cool beauty of Patagonia so watch this space ! What an amazing city
loads of love

Hi Caro Only just got to your blog link as I don't log on to home email that often. Sadly that shows how tied I am to my work - not to self, have more down time in 2013! Glad you are on your tour. Just read up on your visit to the big BA and viewed the photos - 3 happy people as you say. I will be keeping tabs. Love to you all and continue to enjoy! David and Carole X
