Government building
One of the buldings around the San Martin Plaza The rain has followed me to Argentina, solid rain all day yesterday and it looks like it again today too.
So a rainy day calls for a day of museum wandering and a spot of shopping.
Near the house is an area called El Bosque- The Woods where the folk festival was held on the weekend. This is a magnificent area is also set up with a little lake, soccer areas, walkiing and jogging paths, and a museum and zoo. The trees have been planted out with lots of thought more in the style of a botanical garden with stands of various types of trees.
The museum is in the old university buildings which were used up to 40 years ago still as a uni. Truly magnificent buildings, very European architecture styles all around La Plata for all the official buildings.
The musuem is free and open each day, with a little coffee shop and gift shop also in the complex.
This museum specialises in Natural Science and has an old section where they are most species of animals both skeleton and stuffed shoved in cases. The new section has information on the formation of the
continents, continent drift and also the background of the tradtiional peoples who inhabited South America prior to the Spanish with many displays of pottery, artifacts and clothing worn, beautifully displayed and easy to understand.
Spent a couple of happy hours there, and finished my day with going to see the shops around the San Martin Plaza again and looking at the other old buildings around this area. And oh yes a McCafe break!
