January 28th, 2006, second day in Buenos Aires
day 23 of our cruise of 105, 82 to go.
Montevideo, Uruguay was beautiful. We did no organized tours and just walked until I dropped- see picture! The gaucho museum is in a splendid mansion from 100 years ago.
We hit town on a flea market day… heaven! I bought an emerald stone mounted on silver for 10 $ US- maybe glass and tin but I love it. Cost of living is so difficult that
old rich families are selling their silver, jewelry and expendables for little.
We have been in Buenos for 2 hot days. We participated in 2 organized tours. First was a tango show and steak diner last night and this morning, we took the highlights of the city tour- it was very hot, maybe high 90-‘s.
The portenos( people from B.A.) guides tell us that this city is composed of descendants of Spanish and Italian people educated in English with a French culture- very vibrant, some very poor and others very rich. At Eva Perron’s mausoleum this afternoon, Terry reflected that poor people live in corrugated tin homes in La Boca and dead rich people live in marble houses. I can’t wait to see Madona in Evita, the movie.
We are at sea 2 days( leaving at 8 tonight) then on a tour in Puerto Madryn to see little brown penguins.
Ttys, love to all
