Samurai display, Ueno Park

This morning's destinations are the Senso-ji Temple and Asakusa Shrine which are both in the older east side of Tokyo. We get off the metro and are immediately mobbed by young men competing for the privilege of carting us around the district in rickshaws. Ninja
Brings back fabulous memories of the Samurai...the first Japanese TV show shown in Oz and Shintaro, the Samurai who on his visit to Oz drew the largest crowds ever...even bigger than for the Beatles. Hope the Ninja show did their memory justice.

Shintaro was one of my childhood heroes. I used to marvel at the way he hung in the air while he was trying to avoid all the sharp metal disks that the Iga Ninjas used to hurl at him.

Sorry to say it but you are showing your age Dave. The Iga Ninjas were the good guys in beige (not the bad guys)...Tombei the Mist of the Iga Ninjas was Shintaro's mate. Shintaro had every ninja in black (Koga, Black, heaps of bad ninja groups) firing star knives at him...he fighting them off with his hanging in the air or dazzling sword skills. Ninjas leaping in multitudes from buildings scaring this little guy (me) encouraging Shintaro and Tombei to fight back. Memories can be distorted by time...hope this brings you back...I made my own star knives just in case they visited my home to attack!
