We arrived in Siem Reap mid afternoon after another long journey on a public bus from Kampong Cham. Siem Reap is named so as Thailand (former Thai name Siam) was under Thai administration from 1795 to 1907. Reap means ‘recaptured’ or defeat so Siem Reap means recaptured from Thailand.
