Assorted Dipping Sauces and Small Nibbles ...

... by far the best was a blended sesame sauce widely available outside of Japan, but one that was uncommonly good here. There were also two other delicious sauces, one sweet and one vinegar-based, but they just couldn't compare to the sesame version. In typical Japanese fashion, each sauce serves a distinct purpose, e.g. some are for meat, seafood, or vegetables, though we used them as we saw fit.
