Dinner in Medellin ...

... Christmas Eve is the big holiday for most South Americans, so nearly all restaurants were closed tonight. Luckily, El Poblado caters to tourists and foreigners so there were a few options available. It's a pricey area, so I settled for some fast food - cazuela paisa, thinking it was something different. Turns out it's just a variation on the bandeja paisa I had at the Bogota airport, basically the same ingredients but served in a bowl with a ton of beans on the bottom, instead of on the side. I feel sorry for my roommates tonight ... Also didn't notice the chicharron (fried pork rinds) - from the picture, thought it was chunks of beef or pork. Had I known, I would've skipped this dish. The fried shoestring potatoes were a nice touch, except when the bean gravy made them all soggy. The best part of the meal? The delicious fresh guava juice, with two glasses in order.
