Banitsa, the Ultimate Backpacker Food ...

... called burek in the Western Balkans, it's quick, filling, and dirt cheap, about $1 CAD for a portion big enough for a small lunch. I prefer the coiled sausage type over these rectangular ones - better texture and seems less oily. Funny how happy you can be sitting on the ground next to a garbage can at a bus station, munching on a greasy little pastry! But things are different when you travel - I'd probably think this tasted like crap if it were eaten back home.
