Drove to Taupo but again way too busy. So we continued on to Golden Springs, it consisted of a holiday park a couple of shops that had closed and a sign that said "Golden Springs". The holiday park advertised a geothermal pools so we checked n and set up the tent. I'll include pictures of the pools, we went in but they were rustic.
