The church in the village Rimetea

Churches and monasteries This year we decided to make Romania the destination of choice for our summer vacation. When we told family and friends that we were going to the country of Vlad Dracul we mostly got the reply "But why?" accompanied with a somewhat puzzled look like we had gone insane or something. When we then answered "Well, why not?" nobody could give a reason why not. ... read more

Religious Romania
How fantastic that you chose Romania! I was headed there from Hungary when the Danube flooded and cut off all travel. And this blog--wow, I love ecclesiastical architecture. In small villages, it's often the only building worth visiting. The wooden churches here, surrounded by dramatic mountains remind me a bit of the stave churches in Norway that you recently wrote about. There's a scene in one of my favorite Swedish films, Bergman's The Seventh Seal, where the artist in the church is painting scenes of hell and torment, and says that everyone would rather see that than heavenly angels--I think you, he, I and the church in Poienile Izei all agree. However, how heavenly to hear a concert in a church (my favorite) and to have that steeple-climbing adventure getting into the church in Miercurea Sibiului. Great blog!

Should we add a film from the concert?
We actually have a small film from the church concert. Do you think we should add that? /Ake

Concert film
Yes, that would be wonderful. Unfortunately, for me, I can rarely play a video these days, but hopefully I'll soonget my computer fixed. Then, it would be sweet to see the inside of one of those amazing churches with its frescoes and some heavenly music. I just love it that you went to Romania! Looking forward to your other blogs there.
