Wild and wacky!
As usual, your humor hits the spot ("Padang fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down"), and your narrative rather makes me want to visit. I share your dubious view of others approaching me--here in South America, they are often serious scammers. However, the photo takers are interesting because we travelers often want images of exotic people we don't know, so why not these Bukittingis? Good for you for going against the flow for a bit!
