January 20th 2015 We arrived in Butterworth (the station for Penang island) at about 13.30 off the overnight sleeper from Chumpon in Thailand. There were some immedìately obvious differences....the Malay writing (unlike Thai) uses the same alphabet as English, and the electrical sockets are like english ones.
