Torii gate

The most striking feature of the Itsukushima Shrine is the torii gate, a wooden structure standing in shallow water in the bay a hundred meters or so away from the main shrine.

A sobering yet beautiful experience
Great to know about the castle and shrine because it would be pretty heavy experiencing just the A-bomb memorials. My city has a remembrance ceremony on August 6th for which many people make cranes (which are very difficult to fold). Also, I've a large collection of signs in many languages from around the world that say, "May Peace Prevail on Earth," which was a movement started in Hiroshima to remind people of just what you've experienced. Good to hear your perspective on it.
