We zijn vandaag langs de kust omhoog geklommen tot net buiten San Francisco. De weg liep hierbij dwars door Big Sur heen, een spaarzaam bewoonde ruige kuststrook waar het Santa Lucia gebergte abrupt uit de Stille Oceaan oprijst en de weg voor grote delen langs de contouren van de buitenste heuvels loopt.
