We enjoyed a hearty breakfast using odds & ends from our rented kitchen to re-create my mother's recipe for coffee cake (see below), and we delivered two large slices to Stephen and Judy just in time for their own breakfast. When my husband, Phil, and I decided to schedule a driving trip to Yosemite for a series of day hikes, I thought we should also arrange a visit and hike with a friend who lives north of Santa Fe. Our Yosemite visit would be mid-September, but our friend wasn't available until the end of October.
