Mauna Kea from a distance

After leaving the west coast, we crossed over to the east coast of the Island, visiting the town of Waimea on the way. Waimea is at the heart of the Parker (cattle) Ranch. It's where many of the astronomers and employees the Mauna Kea observatory live with their families.
A Week on the Big Island

On Sunday, March 25, Tom and I took a short flight from Honolulu to Kona on "the Big Island" of Hawaii. Our first impression upon arrival was that we were landing on the moon!
