Two locals are painting oil on the inner side of the boat with simple brushes (see next photo). This simple boat is quite big.

Fishing villages in Vietnam

Vietnam has a long coastline (over 3,200km) so fishing is one of the major works for the local people. Whenever I traveled to a city/town near the sea, I asked local motorbike taxi drivers to take me to fishing villages.
