On our trip so far we have had a few long, tiring overnight bus journeys but none can compare to the sheer horror of the 5pm coach to Parapat, on the edge of Lake Toba. Ulrich, our Basil Fawlty like hotel owner, had warned us of huge delays and cranes that stay at one particular spot to pull out the coaches from the bog.
