From Irkutsk, we took an excursion to Olkhon Island, on Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world. It is not only deep, but also enormous! The island itself is beautiful with not a lot there, just a fairly small town where we stayed at Nikitas guesthouse which was warm and cosy, and we were treated to home cooked Russian meals, fish being the staple. I moved to Hong Kong in August 2007 with the intention of staying for 9 months...until I left eight and a half years later....I finally made a move from HK and spent 2016 in Sydney, Australia. 2017 has included Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, Peru, Ireland and Sweden. My favourite adventure: I went travelling in Asia and Europe for six months, taking the Trans-Siberian railway back to England. We managed to get from Thailand to London with no airplanes!
