We left Elizabeth City and travelled to Oriental, NC via Albemarle Sound, the Alligator River, Pungo River & canal, across the Pamlico River, through Goose Creek to the Neuse River. Sailing south for the winter is a dream both Gene and I have had for a long time. Neither of us is employed this year so it seemed like the time to go. Making that decision began what seemed like a marathon of tasks: long-postponed boat equipment upgrades; discussions with others who have made the trip before us; providing to have home chores like bills and maintenance taken care; weeding out stuff to make room for more clothes(mine!), food and water; charts, guides and software for the areas we would be visiting.
