To death or slavery?

This is an old photo of the area where new arrivals to Auschwitz II would disembark. The SS officer to the right of the queue is using his thumb to send people either left to the work camp, or straight ahead towards the two massive gas chambers and crematoria belching smoke. The officer's thumb can be seen in his shadow.
Krakow - A Salty Last Supper

June 17th 2008
Mat: Dave, Trace and I hopped on a sleeper train on Friday the 13th and trundled our way south and east towards Krakow in Poland. Our cabin was pretty lush, a three bed sleeper.
