The Cathedral of Cologne

A structure of pure High Gothic, this cathedral is impressive. Though mass is known to have been celebrated in this spot as early as 313 AD, the current cathedral was begun in 1248 and continually worked on until 1509. It was, however, still incomplete and construction did not pick up again until the 19th century. The construction of the cathedral was finished in 1880, more than 632 years after its conception. Incidentally, the cathedral is 359 feet high and surrounded by a fairly tight courtyard, so I couldn't get the whole front facade in a single photo.
A Voyage for Chocolate, and So Much More

We head out early, planning to spend the day in Cologne, or Köln, as it’s known in Germany. There is little traffic so we make it there in two hours, much quicker than anticipated.
